South Africa’s First WSSD Import From France
Few breeders ever get the chance to import a puppy and those that do will agree :
It’s an awesome feeling bringing in fresh blood, experimenting with a new bloodline and more so counting the moments to the puppies final arrival ! It’s no secret that we all ‘surf’ the web in search of new blood, so it was no surprise when Targo’s breeder contacted me showing interest in a puppy. Subsequently I went onto her website www.lesgardiensdupacte.com and was so impressed with her dogs and the work that they put into their kennel that I decided I would love a puppy from such a serious and conscientious breeder.
More so their ‘type’ was the same as mine. There is no point in outcrossing in my opinion if the ‘type’ is completely different, you will never reach your end goals this way. Bloodlines simply must compliment each other. Over the past few months Benedicte’ and I have built up our breeder relations, each one sharing information with the other. I settled on a puppy from the litter of masculine Ch Targ des Gardiens du Pacte and stunningly beautiful Dryade de vi Pasay. Both Targ and Dryade are quality parents with accomplished show records. Both parents have nobility, elegance and a distinguished quality – something that I do not want to loose in the breed.
Enter Targo!

Dryade whelped in May and I received lots of puppy photo’s of my new French boy. Finallya date was booked for his departure and on Wednesday 30th September.
Targo left his hometown of Le Noyer en Ouche on his two hour drive to Paris, Charles de Gaulle airport.
Targo was an immediate ‘hit’ with the airport staff who took photo’s and e-mailed to me before his departure on Air France at 18.30pm.
He arrived in Zurich, Switzerland later that evening and waited in transit for his main flight on Swiss Air to South Africa leaving at 22.45pm.

This is me in my crate –
you can’t see me but
I am there promise !

After arriving in SA, O R Tambo International airport at just after 9.00am, the only hold up was the State Vet, who only arrived at 3.15pm to examine his paperwork – all ok, and Targo was off again to his final destination and arrived in good condition at Durban’s International Airport at around 7.40pm. By this time, you can imagine my heart was in my mouth and my nerves
completely finished ! My mind was racing, how was this little pup going to be after his 30hr journey to Africa ?! I needn’t have worried , I opened the crate – placing Targo’s little head in my hands and welcomed my boy home.
On arrival at home Targo was ecstatic – yippee, he was out of his crate at last – he bounced around like a kangaroo.
Home at last in Africa he lay his head down to sleep but not before ripping the blankets off the beds and the lounge suite!

Targo has fitted in well with my pack – by no means shy, at only 4 months old he is braving the world with all his might!
A lively and intelligent puppy he has joined in as one of the 3 Musketeers, namely Cito, Sugar and Targo!
Targo sports a refreshing new bloodline which is sure to compliment my kennel.
He is a medium boned, medium strong, elegant puppy with well developed muscle. His pigment is outstanding with
pitch black points and dark skin colouring. He is a playful, fun loving puppy and a dynamic little package!...............

In fact, Targo is JUST THE WAY WE LIKE THEM !

TARGO’S FIRST LETTER TO HIS MOM IN FRANCE
Hi Mom,
I thought I would write and tell you that I just loooooooooove my new mom!
I loooove my new mom....! I loooove my new mom....! I loooove my new mom....! I loooove my new mom....! I loooove my new mom....! I loooove my new mom....!

On my first night, I was so happppppy to be out of my crate,
I ran around my new home bouncing like a kangaroo and I took
the covers off the lounge chairs and dragged them around the place,
Ha ha it was such fun, then I met the ‘pack’ – flip, they are quite a
dominant crowd just like me! I was surprised at first when I showed
my teeth to one of the fellows, Actually it was a girl that was very fat –
her name was Shelby, she put me sharply in my place, I tripped over
some old guy – he gave me a warning growl so I growled back,
he gave me no chance ‘and said “young man best you behave’ –
he growled like a lion I guess he was the ‘big chief’ here – my new
human mom calls him Canto. I had a great sleep the first two nights.
On Saturday morning, I woke my new mom up, she was so cool –
just gives me lots of kisses and hugs and says ‘I’m such a cutie pie’.
I ate my breakfast, my mom put me in a car called a ‘bakkie’ –
new thing for us French guys, and wow, we went off to have breakfast
at a Training Centre for dogs, I tried my best to behave and
I concentrated real hard, funny language the South Africans have,
but my mom speaks good English,,,,,uh huh I noticed.

A big Junior dog came with us, he is Junior but he thinks he is the boss of everyone, Mom said it was good to take him with so we could ‘bond’. Don’t know about that – he tries to put my head in his mouth everytime he looks at me, When I growl at him he puts his big paws on my head, stupid jerk ! I’m gonna get him yet.

This is me and the big Junior that keeps
putting my head in his mouth – stupid jerk!

Then we went home after breakfast so I could sleep, I woke up and discovered the creatures in the fields next door, mom said they are
donkeys and goats. I barked at them in amusement, then I had some lunch and slept some more. We had a relaxing evening
watching TV – a square box that makes noises but doesn’t move. I tripped over some dogs, most of them ignored me when I did this,
only Shelby and Brittney got annoyed with me, grumpy girls!
I gave my mom a ‘French kiss’ and fell asleep at her feet. Next day was so cool, I got so dirty that mom had to wash me – I caused a commotion, I jumped out of the bath and water was everywhere ! even my human mom was wet, she was very patient and put me right back in the bath, then she dried me and put me in a ‘show cage’ next to the old man Canto who also had a bath,
I smelt pretty good, like a coconut and vanilla pod, then we went to Auntie Bronwyn’s home, I met a pretty girl called Lily who played with me, I had some photo’s taken with my new mom and then she kissed me and hugged me again !

This is me trying to dry off in my special show cage
smelling like coconut and vanilla after my bath.
Mom called me a ‘cute baby vanilla pod’ the whole day’ ! hmmmf.
I don’t think I look like a vanilla pod.

By this time Cito and I had started ‘bonding’ and when we arrived home, I had a great time playing with a cute girl called Sugar and Cito joined in – every now and then my head got stuck in his mouth, but he was very gentle.

Once again I went to sleep next to my new mom and one of her favourite old dogs, Tete.
I sighed , I like this place ………….it has warmth, with that I gave my mom a kiss goodnight. One day I will look after her real well but in the meantime she will have to carry on making me my baby porridge.

Lots of love

Your Boy,
Targo ‘Child’
